At Edinburgh Airport, we are passionate about inspiring young people from our local communities by providing opportunities to explore the world of aviation and the wide range of careers available across our airport community.

Through hands-on experiences, behind-the-scenes access and interactions with airport professionals, young people can learn more about our working environment, discover different career pathways and gain valuable insights into future career opportunities.

Since 2025, we have welcomed over 600 young people to the airport through a variety of programmes, including STEM sessions, work experience placements, airport visits and career insight events. We have also done direct face-to-face outreach with over 40 schools and community organisations and extended learning opportunities to every primary and secondary school across Edinburgh, the Lothians, Fife and Falkirk

Day in the Life Programme

Step Forward Employability Programme

Our specialist Employability Programme for 17-20 year olds gives participants the opportunity to develop workplace skills, build confidence and gain meaningful experience in preparation for future employment. Delivered in partnership with local organisations, the programme supports young people who are currently not in full-time education, employment or training, helping them explore career options, develop key employability skills and gain insight into a range of industries and workplaces while building confidence for their next steps.

Please note that referrals to this programme are managed through our partner organisations and are not open to direct applications.

International Women’s Day Programme

Our International Women’s Day Programme gives young women aged 15-18 the opportunity to explore careers in aviation and learn more about roles in areas that have historically been more male-dominated. Through workplace experiences, interactive sessions and conversations with women working across Edinburgh Airport and the wider aviation industry, participants can gain valuable insight into different career pathways, hear inspiring career journeys, and build confidence in pursuing their future ambitions.

Please note that places on this programme are limited and are offered through schools and local organisations. To find out more about the programme, please email Edinburghhr@edinburghairport.com

STEM Centre & STEM Competition

Our dedicated STEM Centre gives young people the opportunity to explore Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths through interactive, curriculum-linked activities that bring learning to life. Participants can take part in hands-on STEM sessions, learn from industry professionals, and discover how STEM skills are used across Edinburgh Airport and beyond. The centre is also home to our annual STEM Competition, which challenges pupils to apply their creativity, problem-solving and teamwork skills to real-world challenges.

Airport Tours & Visits

Our airport tours give participants the opportunity to visit Edinburgh Airport, explore a live operational environment, and learn more about the wide range of careers and activities that keep the airport running.

Through guided visits of the airport campus, young people can gain a greater understanding of the aviation industry and see first-hand how one of Scotland’s busiest transport hubs operates. Due to high demand, we operate a waiting list and prioritise schools and groups in areas of high multiple deprivation, communities impacted by airport operations, and groups with additional support needs.

If you’d like to request a tour please email talentengagement@edinburghairport.com and we will get back to you with more information.

School & Community Outreach

Our Talent Engagement team gives participants the opportunity to meet airport professionals, learn about different career pathways, and gain insight into the skills, experiences and opportunities available across Edinburgh Airport. Through school visits, careers fairs and employability events, we help inspire the next generation and support young people in exploring their future career options.

To find out more about our outreach activities or enquire about support for a school or community event, please email talentengagement@edinburghairport.com and a member of the Talent Engagement team will be in touch.
