Our overall mission is simple: Happy passengers, travelling safely, on-time. As Senior Operations Manager, you will ensure our landside operations teams deliver on this mission and look at ways to innovate and transform what a great journey means through Edinburgh Airport.

We’re looking for a senior leader who can coordinate our overall airport operational plan, ensuring collaboration between all parts of the operation, including our Airport Operations Control Centre (AOCC) and Surface Access team.

The Senior Operations Manager will be responsible for the planning and delivery of our surface access operation to ensure a safe, reliable and efficient operation consistent with targets. From the road to the front doors, our surface access operation encompasses road, rail and pedestrian access to and from the terminal.

What you’ll be doing 

The Senior Operations Manager will be accountable for three key teams: the Airport Operations Control Centre (AOCC), Airport Operations and Surface Access which includes roads, transport, car parking and vehicle maintenance. The successful candidate will also be a key member of our senior leadership team.

  • You will provide direct line management to AOCC and Airport Operations, ensuring the effective delivery of all SOP and incident management processes.
  • Lead the airport operation day-to-day whilst maintaining the highest standards of performance, customer service and safety. You will work continuously to improve practices and collaborate with stakeholders to do so.
  • Oversee the performance of key service suppliers and technology ensuring compliance with all legal and statutory obligations, balancing cost and service effectively.
  • You will be a senior threat assessor and subject matter expert in airport management and high-profile planning such as drones, terrorism and public order. You will fulfil the role of Silver Commander during periods of incident, acting as an adviser to the Executive during operational incidents or disruption.
  • Responsible for Edinburgh Airport’s command and control programme including coaching, development and exercising of operational teams.
  • You’ll be fully trained up as an Airport Operations Manager (AOM), with the ability to provide resilience to the team in times of disruption.
  •  Provide strategic oversight and direct line management of the car parking team, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Accountable for our landside events and incident response including first aid, fire, security and response capability such as adverse weather.
  • Working with our digital and commercial teams, ensure maximum cost-efficiency of our products whilst continuing to develop new initiatives and services to drive revenue.
  • You will work with the senior leadership team to define, develop and deliver operating improvements focussed on balancing productivity and service.
  • Work with operational stakeholders to challenge performance and ensure service level agreements are met.
  • Work with the capital projects team and Operational Readiness Manager to approve plans and proposals for project delivery.
  • Working with our legal and compliance team, ensure the effective implementation of all CAA and DfT legislative changes and ensure these are translated into operational actions.
What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone with experience in incident management – the ideal candidate will have previously managed complex incidents within an operational environment. You’ll have an understanding of contingency planning and be able to manage this within a fast-paced environment.

  • Problem solving – you take a logic driven approach and will be able to quickly develop a deep understanding of Edinburgh systems and operational data. 

The following additional items are nice to have but are not essential for the role:

  • Understanding and previous experience of airport operations
  • Degree level qualification in aviation or a relevant discipline
