Reporting to the Airside Support Unit (ASU) Team Manager, the ASU PRM Operative is responsible for providing a safe and efficient transportation service for passengers with reduced mobility (PRM) by use of the ambulift vehicles.

You will deliver excellent customer service and ensure safe carriage to and from the terminal building, ambulift vehicles and aircraft.  You will provide any assistance necessary to the needs of the passenger during transportation when required.

About the Recruitment Process

The recruitment process for this role will be a one stage competency based interview. You will be asked a mixture of competency and value based questions, which you can find out more about here, and we will ask for examples of your experience and why you would be a good fit for this role.

What you’ll be doing 

  • You will drive the ambulift vehicle transporting passengers of reduced mobility (PRM) on the airfield. You may be asked to drive and operate multiple vehicles / equipment within our fleet including aviramp, coaches, sweepers, trolley vehicles and winter operations vehicles when you have the relevant training and category of licence for that vehicle / equipment
  • You will be required to assist with the moving / lifting of PRM passengers upon completion of relevant training
  • You will be required to secure the wheelchairs in the ambulift for passengers who cannot move onto ambulift seat and must remain in their wheelchairs for transportation. A seatbelt will also be required to be secured for the passenger to ensure passenger safety
  • Carry out Airside/Landside sweeping to meet H&S and CAA Requirements
  • Ensure SLA, SOP’s, CEN, CED and TBT are read and understood 
  • Carry out snow clearing duties during winter operations
  • Be able to act on their own initiative and prioritise their work; monitor and liaise with ground handling agents and other Airport users to provide an efficient Ambulift/coaching operation.
  • Assist when required with allocation of coaching, sweeping, Ambulift jobs etc, as and when required, with the aid of the IT systems in place

Essential criteria

  • The successful candidate must be able to obtain a Counter Terrorist Check, so you must have been living in the UK for the last 3 consecutive years
  • Category C licence (you will be asked to upload both sides of your license to verify this through the application process)
  • Experience of dealing with customers
  • Understanding of health and safety processes / procedures 
  • Experience in using technology (PDA/Tablets) to carry out tasks

The following items are nice to have but are not essential for the role:

  • Cat C+E license would be preferred
  • Previous experience of driving in an airside environment preferred

  • The working environment is varied but will include a high degree of customer contact. This will always require a smart appearance and a polite and professional approach
  • Uniform and PPE to be worn at all appropriate times
  • Ensure no misuse of ID and driving permit, within the boundaries of the Airside pass procedure. Ensure any issues with your DVLA driving licence is flagged up to the relevant people, in this case your Team Manager
