Capacity Manager

Operational Planning

The Airport Capacity Manager is responsible for demand forecasting and capacity modelling across the airport. Using a variety of analysis techniques and big data, you’ll apply mathematical thinking to solve real-world problems. You will develop hypotheses, plan the analytics, and summarise recommendations that benefit Edinburgh Airport. Building strong working relationships with front line operational teams will be critical to delivering work which is of high quality, trusted and respected across the company. You will lead and manage a team of analysts, helping them learn and develop through management, coaching, and support.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Lead analysts and cross functional business stakeholders to study and model operational processes to identify capacity issues, opportunities for efficiency and ways to make smarter decisions.
  • Oversee the creation of long and short-term demand forecasts, flight schedules, and predictive analytics across operational areas of the airport, leveraging data science techniques such as machine learning, regression, and simulation.
  • Supervise and lead on analytical requirements of capital projects, budget planning, 5-year planning, and the airport master planning.
  • Manage junior members of the Business Analytics team in data analysis, forecasting, business analysis, and modelling. Quality assuring the models and outputs of analysts.
  • Lead departmental engagement in performance monitoring and continuous improvement, ensuring performance managers and business owners have access to the most up-to-date and accurate information.
  • Oversee exploratory and diagnostic data analysis, establish KPIs, and provide descriptive analytics of past trends.
  • Represent the team at leadership and executive meetings, simply and concisely presenting results and recommendations to business stakeholders and executive leaders (both written and verbal).
  • Support the business and executive team with ad-hoc and bespoke analysis.

Credentials and Experience
  • Essential: Degree with a strong STEM focus such as Data Science, Airport Planning, Engineering, Mathematics, or Computer Science
  • Essential: Expert in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Highly desirable: Experience working in a data science programming language such as R, Python, SQL
  • Essential: Highly numeric with proven analytical and problem solving skills. Understanding and experience with a range of statistical techniques such as queueing theory, simulation, or optimisation.
  • Essential: Experience in data analytics and providing insights to operational functions.
  • Highly desirable: Experience managing analysts and team workloads, prioritising requests to ensure consistent delivery against promised timelines.
  • Desirable: experience with dashboarding software such as Tableau or PowerBI.
  • Desirable: experience working in the aviation sector.
